Wind Deflector School: What, Why and How?
2024-01-18

Wind deflectors are a must for those who want to keep their car windows open, but don't want draughts, rain or snow to enter the cabin. Since they give the driver greater control over the car's climate, they are popular with many professional drivers who spend a lot of time inside their cars.
In this post, we will look at what wind deflectors are, why they are useful and how to install them.
What are wind deflectors?
Wind deflectors are thin sheets of dark-tinted, high-gloss acrylic glass that are fitted between the car body and the car windows. By acting as a kind of aerodynamic 'shield', they keep rain, debris and snowfall away from the windows, allowing them to remain open even in bad weather.
Having the windows down is also an effective way to prevent them from fogging up.
Why have wind deflectors?
As well as protecting the driver and passengers from things that can enter the car when the windows are down, they also reduce the amount of dirt that gets stuck on the side windows. This is by deflecting it away from the glass. This provides a better view of the side mirrors and allows you to drive more safely.
It is of course perfectly fine to have your wind deflectors fitted even when washing your car in the car wash (but as usual: make sure the windows are up!).
In addition to being practical, wind deflectors are also appreciated in car styling. They give the windows and body a more stylish and framed look, and the black tone allows them to match any colour.
Here are the wind deflectors we offer at SC Styling.
How do you install wind deflectors?
Wind deflectors are very easy to install. Most come with pre-fitted tape and protective plastic. You simply pull the cover off and click them into place between the windscreen and the body.
Some wind deflectors are fitted with clips and are almost as easy to fit as the taped ones. Click the clips onto the windows, and then click the wind deflectors into the clips.
Both methods take just a few minutes, and can be done by yourself - no mechanics needed!
